The Memorial

The Memorial (1927) is a brass complex created by sculptor Gregory Zevgolis. It is likely that beneath the sculpture lies the mass grave of Greek soldiers who died during the battle. Through familiar standards of ancient greek sculpture, it attempts to reestablish the concept of harmony and cohesion to the perturbed postwar society of Giannitsa, which was disordered by wars and demographic changes.
